Congratulations to all of the competitors who participated in the BC Master’s Cup Tournament on October 15!
As usual, the tournament was broken into poomsae (patterns) in the morning followed by sparring in the afternoon and into the evening. Our club had representatives ranging in age from 10 years to adulthood, and in belt categories from yellow to black. Two of our competitors participated in both poomsae and sparring and walked away with double golds, winning their categories in both competitions. Well done Kenneth and Matthew!
The remaining competitors focused on sparring and had successful bouts all round. Tips from our competitors include having a game plan (and trying to stick to it), coming out strong right at the beginning of the match, staying focused even as exhaustion hits, and training well beforehand.
Tournaments are a great opportunity to become engaged in the competitive aspects of tae kwon do. They’re also a great team building event as competitors warm up together, encourage each other, chat while waiting for matches, and cheer each other on. We always welcome new competitors and encourage you to give it a try if you’re interested. Coaches and competitors alike had a great day. Congratulations again to our team!
